Study on carbon dioxide emissions of cars powered by either gasoline, diesel, or electricity
Ecometrica released a comprehensive study on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of cars powered by either gasoline, diesel, or electricity.
Based on the efficiency of the vehicle only, the electric car wins hands down. It is seven times more efficient than a petrol car and four times more efficient than a diesel car. An electric car has fewer energy loses, lesser moving parts. Essentially, there’s only four main moving parts as compared to the 300 parts found in a typical gas guzzling vehicle.
Figuratively speaking, the electric car has a combustion engine at the power station. To truly measure the efficiency of an electric vehicle, you have to take into account the thermal efficiency of the power station and this factor varies in each power station. But one fact remains and that electric cars will always be more green and friendlier to the environment than those internal combustion ones.
