Greenlots Announces William J. Keese as Senior Advisor

Greenlots is proud to announce William J. Keese, former Chairman of the California Energy Commission, as Senior Advisor to help lead Greenlots’ expansion to North America. Former Chairman of the California Energy Commission for eight years under Governors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gray Davis and Pete Wilson, Keese will leverage his advocacy for energy and environmental issues and relationships to help Greenlots in the company’s expansion to North American markets.

In 1997, Keese was appointed by Governor Pete Wilson to serve as Chairman of the California Energy Commission, a position he served in until retiring in 2005. In that capacity, Keese was responsible for a staff of approximately 500 and an annual budget of over US$250 million. He led the Commission’s efforts to forecast future energy needs, site and license power plants, promote energy efficiency through appliance and building standards, develop energy technologies, support renewable energy and plan for and direct state response to energy emergencies. While Chairman of the Commission, Keese also served as Chair of the National Association of State Energy Officials and of the Western Interstate Energy Board. After leaving the Commission, he continued to co-chair the Western Governor’s Clean and Diversified Energy Initiative. Sponsored by Governors Schwarzenegger and Richardson, the goal of the Initiative was to develop 30,000 megawatts of clean and diversified electricity generation in the West by 2015, and to achieve a 20% increase in energy efficiency by 2020.

In the private sector, Keese’s career included 30 years as a Legislative Advocate, formulating governmental policy and advocating on behalf of the oil and gas industry, the solar energy industry and other business interests. His initial energy activities included work on the legal framework for the development of geothermal resources in the Geysers area of California, and on collaborative agreements for the development of British North Sea petroleum reserves. “Greenlots offers an immediate solution for the dual crises of climate change and peak oil, and is an important step towards increased energy security and diversity. I look forward to helping in furthering Greenlots in North America,” said Keese. “We are honored to have William Keese on board,” stated Greenlots director, Ron Mahabir. “He brings a range of policy and operational knowledge about the North American energy markets to our team.”
