Dezir Renault’s Latest Electric Car

Renault revealed its new sleek and sexy 100% electric concept car this week.

Part of Renault’s move to emphasize the human dimension of its vehicle, DeZir was designed to evoke the passionate feelings of falling in love. The car’s fiery and sensuous design may even justify its name; DeZir is a stylized form of the french word “désir” meaning desire.

Style is naught without substance, however, and fortunately for DeZir the car’s specs measure up. DeZir’s 24 kW/h lithiom-ion battery provide the car with a 160 km range.  A kevlar frame keeps the vehicle light (830 kg) and allows for a top speed of 180 km and an acceleration of 0-100 kmph in 5 seconds. Not too shabby.

To answer the real question on everyone’s mind when it comes to electric vehicles: How long does it take to charge?

Using a standard household plug at 240 volts, a full charge takes 8 hours. With 400V fast charging, users can charge 80% of the battery in just 20 min.

Look for the official unveiling of DeZir in October at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
